WHAT IS THE RED STAR SWIM TEST? 8-year-olds are eligible to take the Red Star Test. Once a child passes, he or she may swim with the parents in the pool area but the parent does not have to sit at poolside to supervise the child. Tests may be arranged through a lifeguard and are administered Monday through Friday at 3:30PM. RED STAR TEST REQUIREMENTS 1) Swim 25 yards crawl stroke with side breathing. 2) Tread water for 2 minutes. 3) Float on back for 2 minutes. Only children 10 years old and older who have passed the Red Star swim test may be left at the pool without an adult or a responsible babysitter.
